The Blog

I worked closely with Film by numbers to create animated sequences and graphics for videos that explain, celebrate and promote educational principles of Edinburgh Montessori Arts School.  We used a range of materials and techniques from stop motion to cut out animation to enhance the picture of the school’s artistic and creative focus.

This animated overview created for Hub South East Scotland explains the key objectives of their business and presents projects they have been involved in.

I have collaborated with Film by Numbers to create the illustrations and animation  for this video.

Created and performed by over twenty women living in Glasgow, Endurance considers the changing role of women in competitive sport, examining what it takes to be the best and why ‘what’ you represent matters.

This piece is presented for the first time during Festival 2014 as a co-production with The Arches.

I worked with Film by Numbers to create animation, motion graphics and video projections for the theatre show.

Endurance has been developed under the Artistic Direction of Catrin Evans with Jennifer Edgar and The Women’s Creative Company.

I worked with Film By Numbers to create animation and video projection sequences for Vanessa Coffey and Joshua Payne’s new theatre piece MIRROR MIRROR.
Mirror Mirror examines the thoughts and feelings of those suffering from mental health issues and associated eating disorders. The script has been developed from interviews with young people in Scotland who are fighting with eating disorders themselves. Our visuals were projected onto  the performers themselves, mirrors and helium inflated balloons that represented the character’s thoughts and fears.
The play enjoyed great success as part of the Mental Health Festival at Glasgow’s Tramway theatre. The show will continue to spread the word about these important issues with performances in schools around Scotland.
Written, dericted and performed by Vanessa Coffey and Joshua Payne

Theatre piece Snails & Ketchup tells a story of a boy who flees to the tree tops to seek solace from the brutality of his father. This is a highly physical performance using a complex aerial choreography. The story is supported through short animation clips that I created in collaboration with Film By Numbers

Created and performed by Ramesh Meyyappan

Directed by Josette Bushell Mingo

Snails & Ketchup was nominated for Total Theatre Awards UK. Ramesh was a winner of Life!

Theatre Awards Singapore (Best Actor) 2011

Theatre play RoadKill exposes the hidden world of sex trafficking.  It is an innovative theatre piece filled with video and animation projections helping to express the horrific drama the main character is going through.

I have worked closely with Cora to create the animation for the show.

RoadKill was created and directed by Cora Bissett and the show was the first production in Edinburgh Festival Fringe history to win every major theatre award:

Olivier Award for Best Production in an Affiliate Theatre, 2012

Fringe First

Amnesty Award for Freedom of Expression

Herald Angel

Total Theatre Award for Innovation

Edinburgh International Festival Award

Holden St Theatre Award (Australia)

Stage Award for Best Actress – Mercy Ojelade

CATS Award for Best Production

CATS Award for Best Actress – Mercy Ojelade

“…And Ailsa was walking on the water. She was walking, she was running, she was skimming the surface like a seagull….”

I took part in Illustration Lab 2014, the course was organised by Scottish Booktrust and lead by Vivian French.  It had been a delightful and valuable experience.  I’ve learned loads about the publishing industry and got to meet Val Brathwaite from Bloomsbury Publishing and leading picture book authors and illustrators Ross Collins, Natalie Russell,  Catherine Rayner and even Nick Sharratt!

We were given a task to illustrate an extract from a book.  I  created a short animation on top of my illustration piece to add some life to my work.
